TRANS CANADA

FROM THE PACIFIC TO THE ATLANTIC ACROSS CANADA

Almost every Canadian tells us we are crazy when we tell about riding the bike from west to east with the bike. Even across the endless plains? And the baby, you are taking her, too? Canada’s roads are dominated by large-wheel, gas-guzzling SUV’s. Hardly anyone knows the other side of the country, and if they do, they travel the enormous distances by plane. We have to admit, it is an unusual plan for covering the 6000 km (linear distance), but for us, the bike is the best way of traveling and the easiest way to socialize with the locals.

VANCOUVER ISLAND AND THE WEST COAST

In mid May 2007, we start in Vancouver for a journey through the second largest country on earth. Just Vancouver Island measures 700 km from south to north. Our goal for the first leg is to reach Winnipeg in Central Canada after 4 months.  more...

DRAMATICAL END…

Unfortunately, the first part of our Canada trip finds an abrupt end. A motor cycle ran full  speed into Barbara’s bike. Both of them took a 20 m dive through the air.  more...

ROCKY MOUNTAINS AND THE PLAINS

In June of 2008, we continue our trip through Canada at the place where it ended so abruptly last year. We are incredibly thankful and happy to be back on the bikes again only 10 months later!   more...

RAFTING THROUGH THE PLAINS

In order to give Barbara’s leg a break from biking, and to treat ourselves to some change in the plains, we embark for three weeks on a self made raft with all our belongings. That’s three exciting weeks far away from civilization, through the absolute loneliness of the South Saskatchewan River.  more...

THE PLAINS & CANADIAN SHIELD

No Canadian can understand the desire to cross the endless Canadian plains by bike. They consider the area as just flat, forbiddingly hot during the summer, and brutally cold in winter time. More...

The Revival Tour

Before continuing our trans-Canadian bike tour in the East of the country, we wanted to pay a visit to friends from the previous years in the Western part. Due to the sheer size of the country, it was clear that we needed a car for that. Else, we wouldn’t be able to finish our project in the 3.5 months that we had available. More...

The East & Newfoundland

[August 2009] After six weeks in our 30 year old Chevi van, it is time to push the pedals again. There are still about 2000 km ahead of us to Newfoundland. Saba loves her front seat on the Pino tandem from Hasbikes, but she also spends a lot of time in her trailer. More...
