ADVENTURE DANUBE
A JOURNEY FROM THE BLACK FOREST TO THE BLACK SEA
The upper course of the Danube is famous for the seepage of the river, the numerous monasteries, the narrows near Kehlheim, and, of course, the legendary Danube bike trail. But already after one third of the river’s length, in Budapest, the infrastructure for tourists comes to an end. That’s were the adventure starts. The middle course of the Danube runs through the crisis-ridden countries of former Yugoslavia, and forces its way between the Carpathian and the Balkan mountains. The final section of the Danube forms the border between Romania and Bulgaria. The river widens to over 2.5 km and gets lost in endless riparian forests. Just before the Danube empties into the Black Sea, the impressive river branches out in a labyrinth of reed, islands, and channels, known as the natural paradise of the Danube Delta.
In order to experience the Danube km from the source in the Black Forest to the mouth in the Black Sea, Barbara Vetter and Vincent Heiland chose the unusual combination of bike and boat. Either, they transported the foldable boat on the bike trailer, or they loaded the bikes, the trailer, and all the luggage in the boat. This way, they were able to document life and people right along the river, as well as in the back country.
The captivating slide show is an exciting expedition with secluded islands, overwhelming flora and fauna and sweeping Balkan-Brass music, which was composed specifically for the show. Grotesque encounters with people along the river turn ‘adventure Danube’ into an unforgettable experience.
SLIDE SHOW & LIVE CONCERT
Band ‘Istropolis’ accompanies the slide show live
Catchy tunes evoke the pulse of paddle strokes and bike paddles. Dusty roads, rustic parties, and sunsets over ghost towns – before it turns dramatic…
Barbara Vetter’s and Vincent Heiland’s slide show ‘Adventure Danube’ tells about a journey from the Black Forest to the Black Sea, and about places and people along the almost 3000 km of the river. The slide show gains emotional support and fun from the new sound track which was composed and produced by Andres Böhmer, and is played LIVE by young musicians from Thuringia.
The catchy, jazzy sounds of tuba, trumpet/clarinet, guitar, percussion, and voice bring the Balkans right into the auditory. What an atmosphere!
